Responsibilities

The incumbent demonstrates competency in patient care for neonate, pediatric, adult, and geriatric patients. The Respiratory Care Practitioner will perform arterial punctures, continuous ventilation, airway maintenance, emergency care, infection control, isolation procedures, maintenance and operation of mechanical ventilators, cardiopulmonary resuscitation, and medical gas administration.

Qualifications

Requirements:

 

  • Current California Respiratory Care Practitioner (RCP) license required
  • Current Basic Life Support (BLS) through the American Heart Association (AHA) required
  • Knowledge of: anatomy, physiology, pathology and pathophysiology of the cardiorespiratory system, biomedical electronics basic mathematics, chemistry , physics and psychology.  Pharmacology relating to respirator therapy.
  • Ability to deal with agitated, ill and uncomfortable patients.
  • Maintain confidence of patients.
  • Communicate effectively with staff, patients and families.
  • Calm and reassure patients and families.
  • Work under stressful conditions with frequent interruption.
  • Ability to keep accurate and complete records.
  • Coordinate several assignments and establish work priorities.
  • Work in harmony with other therapists.
  • Completion of an AMA approved respiratory therapy program.
  • Eligible for CRTE credit through active membership in the AART or able to exhibit the knowledge, skills and abilities.
