With future plans to expand, St. Joseph’s Westgate Medical Center, a 60,000 square foot hospital, includes a 12-bed full-service emergency department, a 24-bed inpatient unit, 2 operating rooms, 2 procedural rooms, dedicated space for diagnostic services, an ambulance bay and helipad. The campus features some of the most innovative uses of materials to promote patient safety, patient satisfaction and medical efficiency.

Responsibilities

 

Job Summary:


The Charge Nurse in Pre-Admission Nursing oversees and coordinates the nursing activities related to patient admissions before surgery or treatment. This role ensures thorough patient assessment, preparation, and education to optimize outcomes and enhance patient safety. The Charge Nurse leads the pre-admission nursing team, manages workflow, and serves as a liaison between patients, families, and clinical departments.

 

Key Responsibilities:

  • Supervise and coordinate the daily operations of the pre-admission nursing unit.

  • Conduct or oversee comprehensive nursing assessments of patients scheduled for admission or surgery.

  • Ensure patients receive proper education about pre-procedural instructions, medication management, and postoperative care.

  • Review patient medical histories and collaborate with physicians to identify any potential risks or special

  • Facilitate communication and coordination between multidisciplinary teams including physicians, anesthesiologists, and surgical staff.

  • Assign duties, and provide mentorship and support to nursing staff in the pre-admission unit.

  • Monitor compliance with hospital policies, infection control standards, and regulatory requirements.

  • Address patient concerns and provide emotional support to patients and their families during the pre-admission process.

  • Participate in quality improvement initiatives and staff training programs.

Qualifications

Minimum Requirements:

  • Two (2) years RN experience within applicable clinical specialty
  • Charge Nurse experience preferred
  • Current AZ State RN or Compact RN license in good standing 
  • American Heart Association
    • BLS healthcare provider card 
    • ACLS obtained within six months of hire into position.
