This job provides leadership and management expertise for the operations of the following sections of Health Information Services
(HIS): Transcription, Files, Release of Information, Coding, and Record Completion Area. Assists HIS leadership team in setting
goals and objectives, developing and implementing Kaizen plans, and defining and implementing information technology needs.
Accountable for ensuring compliance with regulations established by government and accrediting agencies as related to medical
records.
Provides overall leadership and direction for the day-to-day and long-term operations of the HIS Department, including
accomplishment of department goals, development and implementation of Kaizen plans, as well as the development and
implementation of departmental production and quality indicators.
Provides leadership in Human Resources management, including team development, recruitment and retention,
analyzing staff mix and deploying staff, ensuring competency of staff through development and regular evaluation, and
providing disciplinary counseling as needed.
Ensures compliance with regulatory standards such as JCAHO, CMS, HIPAA, and Washington State Uniform Health
Care Information Act.
Bachelor’s degree in Health Information Administration or a related field, or equivalent, required. At least 10 years experience in the
Health Information Services field, including 5 or more years of increasingly responsible management experience required. Strong
records management skills; skill in data analysis and presentation; and knowledge of general accounting processes required.
Excellent organizational skills. Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
American Health Information Management Association (AHIMA) credential of a Registered Health Information Administrator
(RHIA) or Registered Health Information Technician (RHIT) preferred.
