Participates in financial analysis tasks of varied nature and depth, including cost accounting, service line reporting and support, budgeting, and various other ad hoc reporting and analytical projects, as well as providing mentorship to the junior members of the Finance Team.
1. Serve as the Finance Clinic point person for assigned Medical Group clinics and markets. The Manager of Decision Support will be assigned to work with the larger, more complex Medical Group clinics and markets. Functions and analyze monthly Medical Group financial performance b.) Provide ad-hoc reporting and in-depth financial analysis to support the needs and requests of the Medical Group Directors and CFOs, using the Data Warehouse decision
support system and other tools c.) Research trends and variances, and identify potential threats and vulnerabilities to the financial performance of the clinics. d.) Make recommendations to Senior Management for action to improve such vulnerabilities and follow through on implementation of recommendations e.) Create and maintain the financial review framework to be used by the other analysts in the financial analytical process. f.) Create and manage the distribution of the monthly Medical Group financial reports for all clinics and markets.
2. Maintain the Health System’s Data Warehouse. The Manager- Decision Support will be assigned to work with the larger, more complex Medical Group clinics and markets. Tasks include: a.) Work with clinic manager and directors to develop and review the accuracy of Relative Value Units (RVUs), thus ensuring the appropriate allocation of clinic costs to services provided, and accurate assignment of costs to patient accounts b.) Perform monthly mapping
of provider wRVUs to the appropriate statistic accounts c.)Perform the monthly reconciliation of data in Data Warehouse to the source systems (Payroll and General Ledger) and perform the processing steps within Data Warehouse to allocate costs to clinics and patient accounts. d.)
Create the annual flexible budget models in Budgeting tool to be used by all analysts. e.) Create monthly clinic flexible budgets to monitor actual clinic financial and staffing results compared to volume adjusted expectations. f.) Monitor clinic costs and assist clinic managers interpret their financial results. g.) Provide training and assistance to the junior analysts in the clinic
3. Assist in the annual operating budget process. The Manager-Decision Support will be assigned to be the lead representative from Finance in the budget process for the larger, more complex clinics and markets. a.) Build the Payroll and GL budget models to be used for the Medical Group’s operating budget using the budgeting tool. b.) Serve as the Finance clinic main contact for assigned clinics and markets. c.) Assist Medical Group executive teams to develop
volume assumptions used in the budget process d.) Provide system training to clinic managers and assist in data input and reporting. e.) Provide year-round support to assigned clinics in interpreting financial results and analyzing variances.
4. Serve as a mentor to the junior analysts in the clinic. Provide training on budgeting and cost accounting techniques as well as advice on approaches for various analytical projects.
5. Maintain decision support system integrity, coordinating regular software upgrades, auditing data quality, researching enhanced uses, acting as liaison to internal information technology clinic as well as vendor to resolve any problems.
6. Perform special financial projects of a diverse nature as requested by Management.
7. Provides quantitative and qualitative financial analysis in support of goals and objectives related to strategic initiatives.
8. Provides business analysis, and directs special projects related to strategic growth and ongoing success.
9. Reviews and prepares financial presentations for Board presentations.
10. Develops proformas and strategic planning analysis for Senior Leadership Team as needed.
11. Provides consultation to the Medical Group Operations leadership team to identify negative patterns in production and expense capture, and develops processes to correct root causes.
12. Monitors and Serves as a consultant to establish reconciliation procedures.
Education Level
*Bachelor's Degree - Finance or related field
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities
*Proficiency in Excel and Word
*Strong written and oral communication skills to interact with all levels of hospital management
*Able to work relatively independently
*Able to work under pressure to meet multiple deadlines simultaneously as well as flexible enough to change direction with responsibilities beyond the normal scope are assigned.
Experience
Five (5) years of finance related experience, preferably in a healthcare/ambulatory setting.
