Overview

St. Luke's Health–Sugar Land Hospital offers the latest technology and treatments for residents of Fort Bend County and Southwest Houston. Our services range from heart care and neuroscience to robotic surgery. Our recently opened Family Birthing Center offers incomparable care and amenities in a spa-like environment to provide a VIP—Very Important Pregnancy—experience. Since 2008, our experienced doctors, nurses, and support staff have provided expert care to support our community.

Responsibilities

Assists in patient care and preparation of surgical patients; Performs scrub duties and related procedures in accordance with their license; Accountable for ensuring maintenance of sterile field and supplies / equipment for selected specialty.  Performs in the advanced roles of preceptor, service specialist and understands sterile technique for instruments and surgical situations.

  1. Assists surgical team in the scrubbing role according to prescribed standards and licensure.
  2. Maintains sterile field. Reports immediately any breaks in aseptic technique.
  3. Passes instruments, suture products, medication, and sponge materials to surgeon.
  4. Assists with retracting of tissue and organs, and suctioning by holding the retracting instrument which has been placed by the surgeon.
  5. Electrosurgical current may be applied as directed by the surgeon, to an established instrument placed by the surgeon.
  6. Performs surgical counts with the RN according to policy and procedure.

Qualifications

Required:

Education: High school diploma / GED 

Experience: Minimum of two (2) years of  surgical experience

Certification: Certified Surgical Technologist (CST) or Certified Surgical First Assistant (CST/CSFA) required or OR LVN

 

Texas Health and Safety Code, Chapter 259 allows for an exception to the certification if one of the below criteria is met:

 

  • Complete a training program in the US military or US Public Health Service
  • Be employed in a healthcare facility before September 1, 2009
