The resident, without the use of an intermediary, must be able to: Take a history and perform a physical examination. Administer injections and obtain blood samples, perform medical procedures commensurate with their level of training and supervision by attending physicians. Use sterile technique and universal precautions. Perform cardiopulmonary resuscitation. Assist at surgical operations. Talk to and interview other patients and staff to obtain/exchange information. Operate a personal computer and office equipment. Demonstrate timely, consistent, and reliable follow-up on patient care issues, such as laboratory results, patient phone calls, or other requests. Input and retrieve data from a Personal Digital Assistant (PDA) Read charts and interpret monitors. Perform documentation procedures, including daily patient notes in the hospital and clinic, chart dictations, and other paperwork, in a timely fashion in accordance with medical staff regulations. Manage multiple patient care duties at the same time. Make judgments and decisions regarding complicated, undifferentiated disease presentations in a timely
fashion in emergency, ambulatory, and hospital settings. Demonstrate organizational skills required to eventually care for 10 or more outpatient cases per half day clinic session. Take call for the resident services, clinic, and which requires inpatient admissions and work stretches of up to 30 hours. Present well organized case discussions and requests for consultations to other physicians and attending supervisors. Complete all required evaluations in a timely fashion. Attend required lectures, seminars, case discussions and other meetings necessary to the training program.
