Responsibilities

The Data Engineer will be responsible for the implementation and integration of applications, support of complex data and analytics services. The Data Engineer works closely with applications, technical, and customer teams to ensure the efficient flow, processing, and outputs of information and data. Ensures that procedures are followed and issues are resolved in a manner that results in a successful implementation and ongoing support of services.

 

The Data Engineer will possess excellent technical skills along with advanced problem-solving and analytical skills to implement, upgrade and support complex application systems within the High Performance Compute (HPC) environment and other complex infrastructure and software environments at Barrow Neurological Institute.


ESSENTIAL KEY JOB RESPONSIBILITIES
● Develops data and analytical applications, working on medium complexity requests for one or several small projects as a team member
● Develops end-to-end business intelligence solutions: data modeling, ETL, and reporting as part of a team
● Maintains and supports a data platform and applications for HPC and other IT data environments
● Provides Tier-3 on-call support
● Develops data and analytical applications in small to large projects
● Has experience in building solutions using R, Python, Pytorch and other development solutions
● Has experience in healthcare data, building clinical and non-clinical solutions that drives patient outcomes
● Has an understanding of microservices architecture 
● Has an understanding of data gathering, inspecting, cleansing, transforming, and modeling/diagramming techniques
● Assists in tasks for improving availability, security, compliance and performance
● Collaborates with internal and some external stakeholders
● Has excellent communication skills, ability to work individually and in a broader geographically dispersed team

Qualifications

Required Education and Experience:


• 2-3 years required
• 2+ years experience in software development, Java Programming, DataOps and DevOps and cloud technologies
• 1-3 years in relational database concepts with a solid knowledge of star schema, Oracle, SQL, PL/SQL, SQL Tuning, OLAP, Big Data technologies, SnowFlake, Apache Nifi 

• 4-5 Years experience preferred• 1-2 years experience with scripting(Shell, Python)
• 2+ years experience with building data pipelines in datalake setup 

 

Required Minimum Knowledge, Skills, Abilities and Training:

Lustre, Slurm, Python, R, database query, and research-based application management.
