Responsibilities

Job Summary:

 

Facilitates communication to families from the medical team in pre-op, operating room, and recovery.

 

Essential Functions

 

  • Creates and maintains an organized and welcoming environment for waiting families.
  • Greets families in the Pre-Operative Center (POC) and directs them to the appropriate waiting room.
  • Provides updates and serves as liaison to the waiting room volunteers.
  • Interacts directly with physicians and OR staff and provides the family with information such as; start of case, hourly progress updates (procedures lasting more than 2 hours), case closure, and arrival in the Recovery Room.
  • Facilitates post-operative communication by coordinating surgeon and family interaction (escorting family to the designated consultation room) at the surgeon's direction.
  • Facilitates family visits with the patient in the Recovery Room.

Qualifications

Minimum:

 

Education and Experience:

 

HS Graduate or HS GED

6 months previous experience with patient, family, physician interaction

 

Licensure:

 

None Specified

 

Knowledge, Skills and Training:

 

Familiar with medical terminology
