Responsibilities

This job is responsible for providing a wide variety of professional nursing services which focus on the provision of quality patient care consistent with Franciscan Health System (FHS) standards/values, applicable regulatory requirements and scope of practice for the nursing profession.  Work also includes developing, implementing and assessing the patient plan of care during time of stay in collaboration with physicians, interdisciplinary teams, and the patient/family.  An incumbent is engaged in direct patient care, including assessing, planning, coordinating, evaluating and delegating work to members of the patient care team, and for providing education and consultation with patients, families, physicians and other staff members in implementing appropriate nursing interventions for optimal patient care.   

 

Work is performed under standards of safety and care that provide instruction/guidance for taking care of issues and patient needs in the absence of a physician.  Requires the use of judgment and critical thinking skills in making decisions regarding patient care (within the scope of practice), including knowledge and integration of available standards, resources and data, and in the efficient utilization of staff/resources.  Work involves continuous contact with physicians, patients, patient families, community agencies, patient care staff and management.  An incumbent is accountable for the quality of care provided to patients, and has the authority to direct care, provide education, seek resources at the unit/department level, and delegate appropriate tasks.

This job exists in multiple locations, and while there may be minor differences in job content depending on the assigned work unit, they are not significant for classification purposes.  Overall, the nature of the work and job requirements is consistent between locations

This position is responsible for providing care for patients in the following areas: ICU/PCU, ED and Medical/Surgical floors.

Care will be provided for patients presenting with a wide variety of medical conditions across all populations, patients who are hemodynamically compromised and require monitoring of multiple systems and/or nursing interventions every two to four hours and patients who are hemodynamically unstable and require complex monitoring of multiple systems and/or nursing interventions every one to two hours.

Qualifications

Education Requirements: 

Graduation from an accredited school of nursing - upon hire and Previous E.D. experience current within the last 2 years preferred, or Critical care experience, current within the last 2 years preferred or New graduate or RNs without E.D. or Critical Care experience AND successful completion of the Med-Surg residency program, additional E.D. residency courses and additional Critical Care residency courses.  BSN preferred - upon hire and one year of related work experience in an acute care setting. 

 

Licensure and Certification Requirements: 

  • Registered Nurse: WA (RN:WA) - upon hire 
  • Basic Life Support - CPR (BLS-CPR) through the American Heart Association - upon hire 
  • Advanced Cardiac Life Support (ACLS) - through American Heart Association - within 30 days 
  • Pediatric Advanced Life Support (PALS) - through American Heart Association - within 12 months 
  • Emergency Nursing Pediatric Course (ENPC) -  through American Heart Association - within 12 months 
  • Trauma Nurse Core Course (TNCC) -  through American Heart Association - within 12 months 
    • Neonatal Resuscitation Program (NRP) - upon hire - preferred 
    • Certified Emergency Nurse (CEN) - upon hire - preferred 
    • Critical RN Adult/Neonatal/Pediatric/Acute (CCRN) - upon hire - preferred 
    • Certified Neuroscience RN (CNRN) - upon hire - preferred
