Job Summary and Responsibilities

The Radiation Therapist applies ionizing radiation to the patient in accordance with the prescription, follows instructions of the Radiation Oncologist, prepares immobilization devices and/or shielding blocks for patients receiving treatment, and calculates mu from appropriate graphs, and utilizes computer plans. Performs dosimetry and calibration procedures as indicated.

 

  • Responsible for upholding Dignity Health's visions, values and guiding principles. Responsible for maintaining positive morale levels in areas supervised. Communicates in a positive and effective manner with customers and staff.
  • Responsible for technical knowledge of Radiation Oncology.
  • Responsible for up keeping all stock and par level in the Radiation Oncology.
  • Delivers accurately the prescribed planned course of Radiation Therapy with minimal supervision. A. Checks prescription, diagnosis, and patient identification. B. Reinforces Radiation Oncologist's advice to patient regarding reactions to treatment and their care. C. Prepares room and equipment for patient according to prescription regarding immobilization devices shield size, treatment distance, lead protection devices, etc. D. Transfers patient safely to treatment couch by physically assisting them, giving special care to catheters, intravenous drips, etc. E. Checks daily treatment, monitor unit setting and delivers prescribed dose. F. Maintains visual and verbal communication with the patient during treatment. G. Maintains patient markings under supervision. H. Appropriately schedules patient procedures relative to their condition and needs.
  • Observes patient for unusual reactions and events. A. Reports reactions and events to Department Supervisor. B. Assists patient and reports reactions and events to Radiation Oncologist and/or Manager.
  • Assists in tumor localization procedures, preparation of molds, etc.
  • Assists in follow-up clinic and other clinical examination of patients as needed.

 

Job Requirements

  • Minimum 1 year of Radiation Therapy experience required.
  • AHA BLS certification required.
  • Completion of ACR approved program in Radiation Therapy

  • Registered Radiation Therapy Technologist
  • Registered Technologist Radiography ARRT
  • CRT (state) required.
  • Fluoroscopy certification required.
  • Fire Safety card required. (must obtain within 90 days of start date) 

 This position is represented by SEIU-UHW and is covered by the terms and conditions of the applicable collective bargaining agreement.
