Position Summary:

 

Assist with the setup, operation, and maintenance of mechanical circulatory support systems, and perform hemodynamic profiles for assessment of critically ill patients.

Position Summary:

 

Assist with the setup, operation, and maintenance of mechanical circulatory support systems, and perform hemodynamic profiles for assessment of critically ill patients.

 

Position Responsibilities: 

 

  • Provide technical support for all non‐investigational mechanical circulatory support systems, including the intra‐aortic balloon pump, ventricular assist devices and other life support systems. With the guidance of the Coordinator or experienced CSS Specialist, assist physicians with the implementation of the MCS systems by assembling pumps according to the manufacturers' recommended procedures.
  • Operate and maintain the MCS system under the direction of a physician.
  • Respond rapidly to the need for the initiation, maintenance or troubleshooting of all MCS systems in the OR, ICU, CCU, Cath Lab, and ER.
  • Perform hemodynamic profile determinations as ordered by physicians.
  • Assist research staff with investigational MCS devices (Jarvik 2000, Abiocor, Tandem Heart) and study protocols including: monitoring, data entry on case report forms.
  • Assist with the transport of patients receiving support with any MCS system to tests and procedures away from the patient’s room.
  • Maintain cleanliness and storage of all MCS device related equipment.
  • Package pumps removed from patients for return to manufacturer or for study purposes.
  • Completes departmental documentation for record keeping and patient charges.
  • Communicates with Manager or Coordinator all critical department activities to allow for the proper coordination of research activities and personnel resources.

Job Requirements

Minimum Requirements:

 

Education and Licensure:

 

  • Associate's Degree preferred
  • Registered Cardiovascular Invasive Specialist (RCIS)

 

Minimum Experience: 

  • Minimum three (3) year clinical experience in a hospital setting
  • BLS Required 
  • ACLS required 

 

Preferred Experience: 

 

  • Bachelor’s degree in a science-related field (e.g. Biology Physiology Health Sciences) or Biomedical Engineering.
  • Exposure to cardiovascular procedures (CVOR Cath Lab ICU or similar environment). 
  • Familiarity with medical equipment such as pumps monitors or hemodynamic support devices (LVADs TAHs IABPs Impellas) is a plus but not required.
