Actively supports department director/manager by coordinating clinical and operational activities for the unit including shift charge, department and/or service line. Ensure that care is delivered to each patient in accordance with quality standards. Act as liaison between physicians and patient care team. Maintain communication and promote cooperation with unit staff and other departments. Position does not serve as a supervisor or manager; instead serves as a clinical nurse and resource to the staff. Provides input and recommendations to the director/manager on coaching, mentoring and performance management of associates. Assumes responsibility and accountability for facilitating, communicating, and collaborating with both the healthcare team, and the patient/family to identify and meet the physical, emotional, and spiritual needs of the patient. Promotes the optimal health, well-being, and safety of the patient through use of the nursing process and in accordance with patient care standards, guidelines, and the State Nurse Practice Act and specialty area. Personally, accountable for relationship-based care, organizational mission, and core values.

 

Daily Operations:

 

  • Assists in planning, implementing and evaluating hospital unit objectives, standards and policies pertaining to activities of nursing personnel, materials/supplies, quality and patient experience
  • Schedules personnel and reviews staff schedule to balance staffing.
  • Reviews and reconciles employee time cards.
  • Assists staff with work assignments and ensures timeliness and quality of service and in problem-solving.
  • Responds to staff needs and provides appropriate problem resolution interventions.
  • Performs direct patient care as described in Staff Nurse job description on an as-needed basis.
  • Facilitates day-to-day operations of unit, managing patient throughput and staffing productivity
  • Flexes staff up and down to assist management of productivity and ensures staff/patient ratios.
  • Assists manager with activities or initiatives related to staff, safety and patient experience.
  • Manages time and resources effectively.
  • Demonstrates total commitment to outstanding customer service.
  • Creates an environment where employees feel valued, respected, trusted and work in a safe .
  • Involved in personal leadership skill development as appropriate per their individual skill set.
  • Roles and responsibilities may be altered to accommodate changing business conditions and objectives as well as the skills and experience of its associates. Accordingly, associates may be asked to perform duties that are outside of the work that is listed.

Special Skills:

 

Knowledge of hospital and nursing policies and procedures and the function of other departments within the facility.
Demonstrates organizational skills and leadership ability. Required to be flexible in scheduling, i.e., weekends, holidays, and on call.

Maintains accountability of own practice and demonstrates professional skills through self development and participation in on-going hospital inservice education.
