Job Summary and Responsibilities

 

Coordination of care, to include complex patients and those who may have multiple appointments. Super User of EMR & EPM (Allscripts & GE Centricity). Provides mentoring of new hires, as appropriate, and acts as an internal on-the job resource and support for other EMR & EPM users. This floating back and front office position also assists with referrals and authorizations, as well as work tasks as needed. Provides basic level of patient care and treatments. Assists with obtaining vital signs, documents chief complaint and all actions taken. Alerts physician of problems/concerns/abnormalities. Assists with obtaining patient history, assists physicians and residents and/or licensed nursing personnel. Performs simple patient procedures, sets up exam/procedure rooms including instruments for minor procedures, prepares and may include administrating medications (excluding IV) under direct supervision of a physician. Obtains lab specimen and fills out requisitions completely and accurately. In addition to the above, the Medical Assistant III functions more independently and coordinates the workflow of MAs when necessary. Also conducts front desk duties such as registration/insurance verification, check-in and scheduling of patients.

 

  • Maintains hospital standards of zero tolerance for mislabeled specimens and collects laboratory specimens according to hospital protocol.
  • Assists the nurse/physician during examinations, treatments, and procedures as requested.
  • Retrieves necessary equipment and supplies.
  • Assists in patient/equipment preparation.
  • Performs follow-up actions as directed.

Job Requirements

MINIMUM

  • High School Diploma or G.E.D
  • Graduate of an approved Medical Assistant Program or completion of a U.S. Armed Forces medical services training program. Note: Candidates who were hired prior to February 2, 2000 can satisfy the minimum education requirements by providing proof of direct supervision for a minimum of 2,000 hours by the same physician, physician group or physician assistant
  • Demonstrated experience with computer program utilized for checking-in and scheduling patients
  • American Heart Association (AHA) Basic Life Support 

PREFERRED

  • Demonstration of good understanding of GE Centricity (EPM) and Allscripts (EMR) 
  • Two years previous MA experience
  • Previous experience in designated specialty
  • Bilingual skills
