Job Summary and Responsibilities

 

The Obstetrical Tech assists the nursing staff by performing basic nursing care procedures, acts as a scrub technician for surgical procedures, and performs a variety of general clerical duties. Consistently shows initiative and flexibility to accomplish assigned workload. Demonstrates the ability to prioritize assignments according to patient and unit needs. Appropriately communicates with other staff member’s, patient’s, physicians’ and visitor’s. Participates in unit and hospital quality improvement issues, follows hospital and unit policies/procedures. Reviews and updates annually all certifications required for continued employment. Duties include accessing secure areas in order to properly and timely set up and assist with procedures. This position requires the full understanding and active participation in fulfilling the Mission of St. Bernardine Medical Center. It is expected that the employee will demonstrate behavior consistent with the Core Values. The employee shall support St. Bernardine Medical Center’s strategic plan and the goals and direction of the quality improvement/process improvement activities.

Job Requirements

  • 1 year surgical scrub experience OR graduate of a Surgical Technician Program.
  • Functional knowledge of a computer keyboard
  • Functional knowledge of aseptic technique  
  • Functional knowledge of surgery instrumentation 
  • Basic anatomy and physiology 
  • Medical Terminology
