Job Summary and Responsibilities

The Cerebrovascular Research Laboratory in the Department of Neurosurgery at the Barrow Neurological Institute is seeking a full-time research technician. This NIH-funded basic and translational research laboratory directed by Dr. Andrew Ducruet MD and Saif Ahmad PhD focuses on immune and inflammatory mechanisms of injury in stroke and Vascular cognitive impairment. Pay is commensurate with experience. The applicant will be expected to function independently with minimal supervision. The responsibilities of this position include performing molecular biochemical and preclinical research laboratory analyses using established protocols or protocols described in the literature adapted as necessary to the needs of the current research setting. Duties include preparation of solutions such as buffers and media preparation and maintenance of cell culture. Assistance with handling pre-clinical models behavioral testing as well as post-mortem histological processing and microscopic analysis. Applicants must be familiar with basic laboratory concepts including calculating concentrations and preparing solutions aseptic technique. Proficiency in basic computer mathematical scientific reasoning and oral and written communication skills as appropriate is required. The Barrow Neurological Institute is a translationally-oriented basic science research facility located in Phoenix Arizona and located adjacent to a large tertiary care hospital. It is in an urban center of academic biotechnology and pharmaceutical research neighboring Arizona State University and the University of Arizona School Of Medicine and immediately adjacent to the Creighton University School of medicine. Assists a laboratory head in the conduct of experiments and in clerical matters pertaining to laboratory daily operations. Educationally-based experience in a research setting preferred.
 
Located in Phoenix, AZ, this position is critical to the success of St. Joseph's Hospital Medical Center and requires the full understanding and active participation in fulfilling the Mission of Dignity Health.
 

Job Requirements

REQUIREMENTS:
Associate's degree and aptitude for laboratory work required. Bachelor's degree preferred. Knowledge of research, clinical, or other scientific environment required. Familiar with the scientific method required. Familiar with laboratory techniques preferred. Demonstrates an ability to continually improve performance preferred. Familiar with basic computer skills required. Familiar with laboratory techniques and basic computer skills preferred.

 

Experience in a research laboratory or equivalent is required. Experience as an intern or student research technician is preferred. Must have excellent math skills and fundamental knowledge and background in the biological sciences.
