We are seeking a motivated and detail-oriented Pharmacy Intern to join our Retail Pharmacy team. Under the direct supervision of a licensed pharmacist, the intern will assist in all aspects of the prescription process, including data entry, verification, compounding, and patient counseling. This position offers valuable hands-on experience in a professional healthcare setting, helping to develop the skills necessary for future pharmacy practice.
Assist pharmacists in all phases of the prescription process, including data entry, third-party verification, adjudication, filling, and selling prescriptions.
Perform non-sterile compounding techniques, labeling, and dispensing of medications, including those not commercially available, pursuant to valid prescriptions.
Provide accurate and current drug information to healthcare professionals and patients, demonstrating knowledge of new medications, dosage requirements, pharmacology, contraindications, adverse reactions, and formulary options.
Review and interpret prescription orders under pharmacist supervision, evaluating potential drug-drug or drug-nutrient interactions, allergies, dosing, and frequency.
Communicate effectively with physicians, nurses, technicians, and patients to ensure safe and rational medication use.
Assist the pharmacy manager and pharmacist in inventory management and control processes.
Participate in counseling, prescription transfers, processing new verbal orders, and bedside prescription delivery through “meds-to-beds” programs.
Dispense medications in compliance with federal and state laws, as well as facility policies and procedures.
