Job Summary and Responsibilities

Job Summary/Purpose

This job is responsible for transporting patient and equipment between departments/locations, safe, timely and accurate transport of patients, medical equipment and patient-related items to their destinations enabling physicians, nurses, technicians, and therapists to perform their duties in an effective manner. Responsible for performing and problem solving through complex/dependent lifts/transfers using appropriate patient lifting equipment. Ensures positive patient and customer satisfaction, proper utilization of body mechanics, adherence to policies, procedures and standards

 

Essential Functions

  • Assists with cleaning of equipment and maintenance of department; may exchange oxygen tanks and/or attach IV’s to wheelchairs or gurneys as necessary.
  • Escorts patient at the time of discharge from their room to personal transportation
  • Maintains a safe work and patient environment, adhering to the hospital’s Safety, Risk Management, Regulatory Standards and infection prevention.
  • Provide Client and Patient relations.
  • Follow hospital department protocols for checking in patients and verifying their identity and following specific precautions identified.
  • Alert caregivers immediately to any signs of patient distress or equipment malfunction.
  • Performs basic life support, gives assistance to medical staff during emergencies, and may respond to hospitals codes.
  • Performs basic patient care activities, based on skill, ability and limitations of scope of practice, as directed by management and/or nursing staff.
  • Transports patients, medical equipment, and patient related items to and from nursing units and ancillary departments in a manner conducive to patient safety and comfort, including special needs.
  • Returns all equipment after transport (ie. Wheelchair, stretcher).
  • Informs floors when patient is being transported; provides feedback to healthcare staff on occurrences during period of transport.
  • Responds to transport and lift requests, meeting time delivery goals.
  • Ensures patient safety by following established procedures and using only approved rolling equipment.
  • Maintains patient’s chart during transport and ensures confidentiality of patient information at all times.

Job Requirements

Education and Experience

One year recent work-related work experience required and

In a hospital setting preferred

 

Licensure and Certifications

Current American Heart Association BLS for Healthcare Provider Certification- upon hire required

Please be advised that this location requires quarterly American Heart Association (AHA) Resuscitation Quality Improvement (RQI) competency certification post-hire. This ongoing competency is required through resources internal to the facility; outside RQI competency resources are not acceptable for CommonSpirit Health compliance requirements.
