Job Summary and Responsibilities

The Pre and Post Surgery Nurse provides, coordinates and directs care to individuals and families using a holistic approach. The nursing process is used as a structured mechanism for critical thinking and problem solving in providing effective and appropriate care within a safe and confidential environment from admission to discharge. Each RN is responsible for collaborating with members of the healthcare team, providing leadership, personal/professional development, and conducting him/herself professionally. Provide care for pre-procedure/post procedure (diagnostic and treatment procedures) patients and intra procedure patients (including but not limited to: endoscopy, TEE, cardioversion, regional blocks).

 

Essential Functions:

  • Assessment: Performs total body and system assessment each shift/visit according to unit standards.
  • Care of Patient: Including planning, implementing, evaluating and educating.
  • Clinical/Technical Skills: Utilizes technology, procedures, protocols, standards and interventions specific to assigned unit.
  • Documentation: Performs legible, timely, concise and accurate documentation according to policies and procedures. Proficient and competent with the computerized documentation system.
  • Leadership: Accepts responsibility and accountability for own decisions and behaviors. Recognizes, accepts and cooperates with direction from facility leadership.
  • Precepting/Mentoring: Participates in orientation of new staff, ancillary personnel and mentors students in a constructive and positive manner. Serves as resource to staff from other nursing departments.

Must float to OPSC Wymark as needed.

Job Requirements

Minimum:

  • Current California RN license required
  • One (1) year of Telemetry experience in an acute care setting as an RN
  • Current BLS and ACLS certifications (American Heart Association)
  • Procedural Sedation Certification

 

Preferred:

  • Previous pre- and post-surgery experience is highly preferred
  • Previous critical care experience (PACU, ER, ICU, or equivalent)
