Job Summary and Responsibilities

Job Summary:

 

In keeping with the Marian Medical Center healthcare philosophy, the LVN is an experienced practitioner who demonstrates in-depth knowledge of nursing, patient care and the ability to practice independently. Under supervision, identifies and implements nursing interventions and evaluates the results of these interventions for a given patient population.

 

Job Duties:

  • Demonstrates proficient vocational nursing skills:
    • Passes medications timely and appropriately, following policy and procedure.
    • Completes treatments accurately and within appropriate time frames.
    • Demonstrates ability to operate diagnostic equipment.
    • Demonstrates proficiency in IV insertion and maintenance.
    • Maintains environment free of resident abuse; reports suspected abuses to supervisor.
    • Responds appropriately in crisis situations.
  • Utilizes the nursing process to provide safe, therapeutic care for patients:
    • Assessment
    • Planning in collaboration with RN
    • Implementation
    • Evaluation
    • Documentation of the nursing process reflects proficient level of clinical practice.
  • Interacts with staff
    • Collaborates with RN to identify and meet educational and discharge needs of patients.
    • Shares continuing education knowledge with co-workers.
    • Assesses CNA staff competence.
  • Compliance
    • Completes the nursing portion of the MDS in a timely manner to ensure compliance with Medicare guidelines.
  • Compliance with policy and procedures
    • Complies with safety, infection control, CHW Integrity Program, and other organizational policies (90-day evals-department specific orientation checklists completed; annual evals -annual competency checklists completed).
    • Complies with the organizations's dress code.
    • Arrives at work on time, as defined by the Attendance and Timeliness Policy.
    • Attends work consistently, as defined by the Attendance and Timeliness Policy.
  • Other Staff Responsibilities
    • Actively supports the organization's mission, philosophy and strategic plan.
    • Demonstrates good time management and priority setting.

Job Requirements

Minimum Qualifications:

 

Education and Experience:

  • Experience within last two years in acute and/or long-term care.

Licensure and Certifications:

  • Licensed Vocational Nurse: CA (LVN:CA)
  • Basic Life Support - CPR (BLS-CPR) (within 30 Days of hire)
  • IV certification or completion thereof (within 6 - months).
