The Cardiac CT Technologist is responsible for performing and processing advanced CT examinations with an emphasis on cardiac and coronary artery imaging. This role requires expertise in patient preparation, accurate ECG gating, and precise timing of intravenous contrast administration to optimize coronary and cardiac chamber opacification. The technologist independently selects and adjusts scanning protocols, monitors patients during procedures, and ensures image quality through post-processing techniques including multiplanar reconstructions, MIPs, and 3D volume rendering. The position involves collaborating with cardiologists and radiologists to provide diagnostic images that support evaluation of coronary artery disease, cardiac function, structural heart disease, and pre-procedural planning. The technologist is accountable for patient safety, radiation dose optimization, contrast reaction management, and adherence to established departmental and regulatory standards.This role involves close collaboration with cardiologists on complex cases, including those involving coronary arteries and the use of CT-FFR software. The incumbent also provides advanced support and training for other technologists and demonstrates competency for adult and geriatric patients. Primary responsibility for the comprehensive daily operations of the department.
Essential Function
Prepare patients by obtaining history, explaining procedures, placing IV access, and ensuring proper heart rate and rhythm control when indicated.
Accurately time and administer intravenous contrast to optimize coronary artery and cardiac chamber opacification.
Operate CT equipment with ECG-gating and adjust technical parameters for image quality and radiation dose optimization.
Monitor patient condition, vital signs, and comfort throughout the procedure, intervening when necessary.
Process studies using advanced post-processing software (MPR, MIP, 3D rendering, functional analysis) for physician review.
Collaborate with cardiologists, radiologists, and referring providers to ensure clinical questions are addressed.
Document studies, maintain accurate patient records, and follow departmental protocols.
Adhere to radiation safety, infection control, and contrast administration guidelines.
Assist in quality assurance, equipment calibration, and protocol development.
Assists cardiology leadership with equipment maintenance and troubleshooting, identifying problem areas, and suggests solutions. Coordinates Biomed preventative maintenance and downtime scheduling and communication.
Serves as a technical resource for the staff and physicians, assuring quality of procedures and compliance with standard protocols,
Perform cardiac and coronary CT examinations using appropriate scanning protocols.
