Job Summary and Responsibilities

Job Summary:

 

In keeping with the French Hospital Medical Center health care philosophy, the Lead Cardiovascular Technologist performs and trains staff to perform a variety of technical procedures that will require independent judgement with ingenuity and initiative. Assumes responsibility for specific procedures as required. Under direction of the Department Manager, Medical Director and Chief Nursing Executive, monitors and directs while coordinating daily operations. Evaluates work process. Assists the Department Director generates a staffing schedule that provides adequate coverage to meet patient care needs.

    • Peripheral vascular angiography
    • Electrophysiology studies
    • Temporary transvenous pacemaker insertion
    • Pericardiocentesis
    • Percutaneous Transluminal Angioplasty (PTA
    • Intracoronary Stent Placement (ICS)
    • Rotablator procedures
    • Intravascular Ultrasound (IVUS)
    • Retrieval of foreign body from heart or great vessels
    • Placement of arterial and/or central venous lines
    • Intracoronary thrombolytic infusion for acute myocardial infarction
    • Intra Aortic balloon pump counterpulsation/Impella
    • Emergency life support:
      • Techniques in CPR
      • Cardioversion or defibrillation
    • Interventional Radiology procedures: Peripheral Vascular, IVC Filters, Nephrostomy drain, drainage procedures, Small parts procedures, Vertebroplasty, Thrombolysis, Embolizations, Central Lines etc.
    • Electro-Physiology procedures: A Fib, A-Flutter, V-Tach, SAVT etc.
    • All of the above described include Monitoring, Scrub and set-up.
  • Must be able to work well with patients and department staff.
  • With the Department Director, gives direction in developing & carrying out technical programs of continuing education & recommends methods & procedures for position training at appropriate levels within the department.
  • Provides recommendations to Department Director needed to maintain a department staffed with the necessary quality & numbers of personnel to insure quality patient care.
  • Participates in meetings, (Cardiovascular, Radiation Safety Committee, Cath Conference) and deliberations of committees concerned with planning & establishing effective procedures & practices for the optimum care of patients & hospital operations.
  • Assists Department Director to provide continued monitoring & evaluation of all departmental written policies & procedures to assure all policies are in accordance with the bylaws & recommendations of French Hospital Medical Center, A.H.A., Title 22 and JCAHO.
  • Assits with the orientation of new personnel & helps increase their technical & professional skills through instruction at in-service classes & appropriate professional activities & organizations.
  • Functions as a resource person & can when necessary, work as a Technologist, in any area of the department should the situation arise.
  • Assist staff with maintenance, electrical safety, & upkeep of all equipment within the department.
  • Participates in outside professional activities.
  • Work together with the Cardiovascular Director.
  • Performs patient procedures.
  • Helps maintain the output, quality & manner in which the technical staff performs their duties.
  • The following responsibilities must be performed or delegated:
    • Data analysis & final report generation.
    • Logging all procedures with appropriate information.
    • Charting & filing all procedure records & results.
    • Copying & distributing final reports.
  • RESPONSIBLE FOR SMOOTH OPERATION OF CARDIAC CATH LAB.
  • Assists Department Director, to organize and inservice staff to maintain adequate stock levels to run department efficiently.
  • Assists in maintaining proper scheduling protocol.
  • Assists Department Director when needed to organizes monthly Cardiac Cath Conference Department meeting.
  • Will assist physicians or staff in the investigation of new products or techniques relating to Cardiology.
  • JCAHO:
    • Demonstrate knowledge of applicable JCAHO standards and Title 22 Regulations.
    • Develops and maintains ongoing improvement plan compliance with applicable JCAHO standards and Title 22 regulations.
    • Trains staff on ongoing basis in subjects applicable to JCAHO standards and Title 22 Regulations

Job Requirements

Required:

  • Education Level: Bachelors Of Science
  • Experience: 5 Years acute care hospital-based experience in a Cath Lab procedure-based department.
  • Registered Cardiovascular Invasive Specialist (RCIS)
  • Basic Life Support - CPR (BLS-CPR)
  • Advanced Cardiac Life Support (ACLS) (within 90 Days)

Preferred: 

  • Experience: Non-invasive procedures experience
