Job Summary and Responsibilities

Processes tissue and cytology specimens for examination, assisting the Pathologists in gross examination of tissue specimens and in performing autopsies. With other Histology team members, participates in the management of the Histology section. May have access to or be required to distribute drugs, needles or syringes from storage locations, (such as large stock supplies, automated dispensing units and other carts) to/within patient care areas or treatment carts as defined by hospital policy/procedure.

Job Requirements

One (1) year experience as a Laboratory/Pathology Assistant.

High School graduate or GED.

Ability to: Work as a team to meet the team goals and objectives.

Work effectively under stress and adjust priorities, as circumstances require.

Maintain a high degree of accuracy.

Treat co-workers, patients, visitors, and the public with dignity and respect.

Establish and maintain effective working relationships with all hospital personnel and medical staff.

Maintain patient confidentiality.

Problem-solve effectively.

Work a flexible schedule and be willing to work additional hours if needed for the provision of quality patient care.

Knowledge of: Proper gross examination procedures.

Autopsy procedures.

Anatomic Pathology terminology.

Aseptic technique.
