Job Summary and Responsibilities

Job Summary:

 

The Security Officer ensures that the healthcare enterprise reasonably safe and secure environment. Respond promptly to security emergencies within the hospital or other healthcare settings while maintaining a professional demeanor at all times. Is responsible for documenting all incidents and requests for assistance within the hospital reporting platform. Observes and reports activities and incidents at an assigned site. Preserves order and acts to enforce regulations and policies when assistance is requested by medical staff/employees. The security officer shall support CommonSpirit Health's strategic plan and the goals and direction of the quality improvement/process improvement activities. It is expected that the security officer will demonstrate behavior consistent with CommonSpirit Health core values and Humankindness.

 

Job Duties:

  1. Protects staff, patients, and visitors by responding to calls for assistance in a timely and prudent manner. Calls may include incidents such as violent or unruly patients, visitors, crimes committed or in progress, or to emergency codes, and requests for opening doors.
  2. Patrols the facility and grounds by foot or vehicle; monitors security alarms and dispatches officers promptly to location(s) where needed; and reports unsafe acts or conditions.
  3. Reports HIPAA breaches if witnessed; investigates security breaches, conducts investigations, and writes incident reports. Ensures that all activities are logged and incident reports are accurately completed, clear, concise, legible, and submitted in a timely manner.
  4. Uses appropriate emergency and radio codes in dispatching security officers while knowing hospital campus to ensure that dispatches are to the right location.
  5. Adheres to uniform dress code requirements and ensures employee ID badge is visible at all times while on duty.
  6. Reports all unsafe conditions or work hazards; is aware of the environment; uses common sense, adheres to patient/visitor identification policies.

Job Requirements

 

Education and Experience

  • High School Graduate or GED.
  • Required: Six (6) months experience as a security officer in a healthcare setting, Law enforcement or military service OR One (1) year experience as a Security Officer.

Licensure and Certifications

  • Security Guard: CA
  • Basic Life Support - CPR (BLS-CPR) within 90 days.
  • Driver's License: CA within 30 days.
  • DMV Moving Violations (DRVDMV) within 30 days.

Knowledge, Skills, Abilities, and Training

  • Familiar with duties and responsibility of being a security officer.
  • Able to properly use assigned equipment and follow established policies and procedures.
  • Completes ICS 100, 200, 700 training courses within 90 days of hire.
  • Maintain all other required training/certifications thereafter while employed by CommonSpirit Health.
  • Must be able to speak English, communicate clearly orally and in writing.
  • Knowledgeable in the use of de-escalation techniques.
