Job Summary and Responsibilities

The Nurse Extern (NE) is expected to perform duties in alignment with the mission and policies of the organization. Performs duties in support of and in compliance with the performance improvement plan, Joint Commission and other licensing, accrediting and regulatory agencies. The NE is expected to practice skills taught previously in the RN training program in order to become more proficient in the procedures routinely performed by RNs. The NE may provide patient care, including treatments and sterile procedures, under the supervision of a RN preceptor. The NE is responsible to the assigned RN preceptor for patient care and nursing procedures, excluding taking or noting physician’s orders and skills for which the student has been given no prior formal instruction.

Job Requirements

 

    • Must be within at least one year of graduating from an accredited school of nursing.
    • Must be enrolled and in good standing at a school of nursing.
    • Basic Life Support - AHA (CT CPRBLS)
    • Uses ability to communicate clearly in verbal English.
    • Work at a fast pace in an active work environment.
    • Stand and walk for prolong periods.
