Job Summary and Responsibilities

The Emergency Med Spec expected to perform duties in alignment with the mission and policies of the organization. Performs duties in support of and in compliance with the performance improvement plan, JCAHO and other licensing/accreditation and regulatory agencies. Administers patient care to designated patients under the direction and supervision of a registered nurse. Performs a variety of direct and indirect patient care duties in accordance with the prescribed plan of care centered around activities of daily living. Utilizes established hospital standards of care and practice to guide patient care activities. Follows the plan of care set by the registered nurse, managing the individual needs of the patient with regards to their age and clinical diagnosis as indicated. Maintains patient safety and confidentiality during the hospital stay. Embraces diversity by displaying sensitivity to different cultures and cultural backgrounds

  • Demonstrates adherence to the standards of conduct requirements
  • Provides direct patient care under the supervision of a licensed nurse within the scope of practice of a nursing assistant, such as vital signs, ambulation, activities of daily living, and routine treatment procedures as defined by hospital policy/procedure/routine.
  • Reports all observed symptoms, reactions, treatments and changes in the patient's condition to the licensed nurse. Demonstrates clinical/technical expertise in general nursing skills Understands age specific variations in patient population
  • Documents patient care measures according to patient care standards, policies and procedures. Manages age specific needs through appropriate adaptation of interventions (as directed by the licensed nurse)
  • Assists in and accompanies patients in the admission, transfer, transport, and discharge procedures. Provides for safe care of patient valuables during these processes Utilizes proper body mechanics when performing job duties
  • Maintains adequate levels of supplies and functioning of equipment and demonstrates accountability of all equipment

Job Requirements

  • High School Graduate or GED
  • 1-2 years of EMT experience
  • Emergency Medical Technician: CA
  • AHA Basic Life Support
  • Fire Safety card within 90 days of hire
