Responsible for the day-to-day coordination of the Hospice service volunteer program, including determining needs for volunteers, placing volunteers, training volunteers, and working to increase and enhance volunteer retention. Work includes directing, overseeing and evaluating the work of volunteers who provide offsite services in patient homes. Some program planning and implementation is included. Maintaining volunteer hours is essential to the Hospice program's compliance with Medicare requirements for reimbursements. As such, the Volunteer Coordinator-Hospice must ensure volunteer hour requirements are met, volunteer training is adequately documented, and make continual efforts to recruit and retain volunteers.
Work requires strong communication and time management skills, as well as the ability to effectively recruit, screen, place and evaluate an adequate volunteer work force.
