Job Summary and Responsibilities

The Security Officer ensures that the healthcare enterprise has a reasonably safe and secure environment. Respond promptly to security emergencies within the hospital or other healthcare settings while maintaining a professional demeanor at all times. Is responsible for documenting all incidents and requests for assistance within the hospital reporting platform. Observes and reports activities and incidents at an assigned site. Preserves order and acts to enforce regulations and policies when assistance is requested by medical staff/employees. The security officer shall support CommonSpirit Health's strategic plan and the goals and direction of the quality improvement/process improvement activities. It is expected that the security officer will demonstrate behavior consistent with CommonSpirit Health's core values and Humankindness.

 

Essential Functions Include:

  • Protecting staff, patients, and visitors by responding to calls for assistance in a timely and prudent manner. Calls may include incidents such as violent or unruly patients, visitors, crimes committed or in progress, or to emergency codes, and requests for opening doors. Patrol the facility and grounds on foot or by vehicle; monitor security alarms and dispatch officers promptly to the location(s) as needed; and report unsafe acts or conditions.
  • Knowledge of emergency procedures, equipment, and supplies, including of radios and hospital codes
  • Reports HIPAA breaches if witnessed; investigate security breaches, conducts investigations, and writes incident reports. Ensures that all activities are logged. That incident reports are accurately completed that they are clear, concise, legible and submitted in a timely manner.
  • Use appropriate emergency and radio codes in dispatching security officers while knowing hospital campus to ensure that dispatches are to right location.
  • Keeping the organization’s mission, vision and values at the forefront of all decision making and action.
  • Demonstrates the professional and technical skills necessary for the role, exhibiting both depth and breadth of expertise. Builds trust and confidence through respectful and credible interactions that reflect positively on personal integrity and the organization’s mission.

 

As our Security Officer, you will monitor buildings and grounds on the property to ensure the safety and security of employees, patients, and other visitors.
Every day you will monitor the property by walking and driving around the premises. Your security detail could include guarding facility and unit access points, monitoring surveillance cameras, testing new security technology, and protecting all employees/visitors against acts of violence should they arise.
To be successful in this role, you’ll need the ability to remain calm and take action based on the situation, known facts, and understand the position limitations. You are also expected to respond to emergency codes in a timely manner. Previous experience in security/patrol in a healthcare setting is preferred.

Job Requirements

Required:

  • High School Graduate or GED and Six (6) months experience as security officer in a healthcare setting, Law enforcement or military service; or One (1) year experience as a, upon hire or
  • Security Guard: CA, upon hire
  • Driver's License: CA, within 30 Days
  • American Heart Association CPR/Basic Life Support, within 90 Days
  • Able to properly use assigned equipment and follow established policies and procedures

  • Completes ICS 100, 200, 700 training courses within 90 Days of hire

  • Familiar with the duties and responsibilities of being a security officer

  • Knowledgeable in the use of de-escalation techniques

  • Maintain all other required training/certifications thereafter while employed by CommonSpirit Health

  • Must be able to speak English, communicate clearly orally and in writing

Preferred:

  • Basic Health Care Security Officer, upon hire
