As our Clinical Secretary, you will provide essential non-clinical support and comfort to patients and staff, assisting other members of the healthcare team with providing basic patient care under the direction of a Staff Nurse.
Every day you will support daily unit operations by assisting with patient comfort needs, transporting patients, performing light cleaning, stocking supplies, and relaying messages to nurses to ensure an organized environment.
To be successful in this role, you will exhibit a helpful, compassionate demeanor, strong attention to detail, and a proactive approach to maintaining unit efficiency and team support within a dynamic healthcare setting.
Essential Function
Answer telephones and take messages:
Answer telephone by third ring.
Must observe proper telephone etiquette.
Record all messages for department personnel.
Schedule patients:
Schedule patients for GI & Pre-Admit, transfusions, phlebotomy, IV therapy, etc.
Maintains a schedule book and updates appropriate paperwork.
Inform appropriate ASP staff re: add-on patients.
Fax pt. info to appropriate departments, i.e., Admitting, Med Records, blood bank, etc.
Pre-Admit:
Give patients pre-admission forms to complete.
Organize admitting paperwork and doctors orders, H&P, pre-op.
Prepare pre-op testing paperwork.
Review pre-admission form with patient. Review pre-op instructions.
Direct patient to pre-op test departments.
Distribute Daily Schedules:
Copy and deliver ASP/CN, GI) schedules to Admitting, Med Red and copy of GI schedule to PACU.
Misc. duties:
Clear paper from fax and laser printer.
Sort and file paperwork.
Construct and deconstruct charts.
Pull charts, stamps, breakdown for Medical Records.
Demonstrate flexibility in job duties:
Attends in-services and workshops as requested by the manager.
Assist in ordering all office supplies.
Become knowledgeable of the functioning of all areas of the department.
Suggest areas that need attention and offer assistance.
