Job Summary and Responsibilities

Day Full Time Medical Acute Registered Nurse

Medical Acute is a 37-bed combination unit that includes 3 private rooms. It is divided into two sides:

One section specializes in patients presenting with medical-surgical diagnoses, which encompass, but are not limited to, chronic congestive heart failure, diabetes, cellulitis, kidney failure, sepsis, alcohol and chemical dependencies, respiratory and asthma exacerbations, pneumonia, and failure to thrive.

The other section of the unit is allocated for our behavioral patient population. This includes, among others, individuals experiencing alcohol dependencies and withdrawals, and mental illnesses such as schizophrenia, bipolar disorder, and those exhibiting suicidal and homicidal ideation or tendencies.

The unit is supported by Patient Care Technicians and Mental Health Technicians for both medical-surgical and behavioral cases. Unit staffing maintains an RN ratio of 4:1 for telemetry patients and 5:1 for Medical Surgical patients.

A robust multidisciplinary team is consistently engaged in the care and well-being of our patients. This team comprises nurses, case management professionals, social services personnel, physical therapists, hospitalists, specialty physicians, and psychiatric MDs, with support available both in person and via telepsychiatry.

While this unit operates at a high tempo and can present significant challenges, it offers a broad spectrum of experiences and valuable opportunities for professional career enhancement and development.
