Built in 1973, Dignity Health Methodist Hospital of Sacramento is committed to providing daily excellence in health care for residents of Sacramento’s southern suburbs, including the Elk Grove, Wilton, and Galt communities. Methodist Hospital is home to a 158-bed acute care facility with 1,120 employees, 283 medical staff, and 29 Emergency Department beds.
Methodist Hospital also owns and operates Bruceville Terrace—a 171-bed skilled nursing and long-term care facility adjacent to the hospital that provides care for the elderly as well as those requiring extended recovery.


The hospital is home to the Family Medicine Residency Program, an accredited and nationally recognized program providing resident physicians with specialty training in primary care family medicine. Together, the hospital and residency program developed a pioneering curriculum addressing the identification, treatment, and support of human trafficking victims, establishing the unique Human Trafficking Medical Home clinic.

Job Summary and Responsibilities

As our Wound Ostomy Nurse, you will connect our hospital directly to the community, delivering specialized in-home care that empowers patients to heal comfortably and effectively.

Every day you will expertly manage in-home patient visits, performing advanced treatments like PICC line care, wound vacs, and infusions, while educating patients and families on complex conditions and treatments.

To be successful in this role you must be an exceptionally organized, independent professional, adept at managing complex schedules, patient care, and technology-driven documentation. Your deep commitment to patient engagement and advocacy will make you a vital defense against declining health, fostering a profound impact on individual well-being.

  • Patient Satisfaction: Is a role model for the Hospitals Patient Satisfaction effort, i.e. demonstrates AIDET principles when interacting with customers, subordinates and colleagues.
  • Develops and implements the hospitals Wound Care Program to include patient care protocols, documentation tools, wound care formulary and WOCN referral criteria.
  • Established standards of care, competencies, policies and procedures in quality, cost-efficient, and effective wound care for all clinical staff.
  • Makes recommendations to the medical staff for changes to wound care orders, and provides evidence-based research support as needed.
  • Provides instruction and guidance, both formally and informally, to staff, and assists in identifying staff learning needs related to wound, ostomy, and continence as appropriate.
  • Assures that new equipment and procedures are inserviced to all staff members.

Job Requirements

Minimum:

  • 3 years as a Registered Nurse in an Acute Care setting in the last 5 years.
    • RNs with subacute experience may be considered based on the complexity of wound care performed within the subacute setting.
  • Bachelor's Degree in Nursing (BSN)
  • California RN License
  • BLS certification (American Heart Association)
  • Within 24 months of hire, the following must be obtained: Wound, Ostomy and Continence Certification (WOCN) or Ostomy Management Specialist Certification (OMS) with Certified Wound
    Care Nurse Certification (CWCN).

Preferred:

  • Master's Degree in Nursing (MSN)
