Job Summary and Responsibilities

As our Patient Transporter, you will provide essential assistance and transportation for patients and related items across our campus, ensuring a highly customer-sensitive and seamless experience.

Every day you will promptly and safely transport inpatients and outpatients to and from various hospital areas. You will meticulously confirm patient identification, greet and assist in transferring patients, and make conscious observations of patient condition during transport, reporting any issues to appropriate personnel. You will also maintain a clean and organized work area and report any malfunctioning equipment.

To be successful in this role, you will demonstrate a strong commitment to patient safety and exceptional customer service for all individuals within our facility. You will be attentive, observant, and capable of performing duties efficiently while upholding the highest standards of care and professionalism.

  • Responsible for transporting patients according to the designated method (stretcher, wheel chair, bed, etc.) and also any other support equipment such as oxygen, monitor, infusion pumps, etc. Transporter should greet the patient, identify themselves and inform the patient where they are being taken and for what purpose. Transporter should wash and/or gel hands prior to handling patient and/or anything in the patient's room.
  • Transport slips will be assigned daily from the Central Transport Dispatcher, with add-on's collected through out the shift. They will then have the appropriate information when confirming patient ID.
  • Patient privacy and comfort must be maintained at all times. Patient's attire must cover them completely or a sheet and/or blanket must be utilized. Patients will be treated with courtesy, respect, and consideration at all times.
  • Notifies Nursing prior to transport and upon returning patient to nursing floor. Transporter must sign patient in and out of the Patient Transport Log Book located at each nurses' station.
  • Prior to transporting patients, the Transporter must collaborate with nursing personnel to determine the level of nursing assistance that will be required; i.e., assure that the patient is ready for transport; nursing personnel will discontinue and reinstate patient therapies such as suction, drainage, etc.
  • Patient Transporters must follow the Patient ID Policy and Procedure, two (2) patient identifiers, name and DOB matching with transport request and have patient state this information to you verbally - if altered mental status, you need to confirm ID with nurse.

Job Requirements

Minimum

  • HS Diploma or equivalent combination of education and/or experience
  • American Heart Association BLS Provider certification

*This position frequently lifts 35lbs from floor to waist and from waist to above.
