Job Summary and Responsibilities

As a Dosimetrist, you will work under the supervision of the Lead Physicist to assist the Radiation Oncologist in providing safe and effective treatment to radiation therapy patients.

Every day you will perform specific duties under the overall direction of medical physicists and direct supervision of the Lead Medical Physicist, ensuring precise treatment planning and delivery. You will also be responsible for renewing credentials annually and adhering to ethical standards.

To be successful in this role, you will demonstrate meticulous attention to detail, a strong understanding of radiation oncology principles, and the ability to work collaboratively within a highly specialized team to ensure optimal patient outcomes and safety.

  • Designs accurate treatment plans by means of computer and/or manual computation that delivers prescribed radiation doses as prescribed by the treating radiation oncologist.
  • Preforms, verifies and documents calculations for the delivery of the prescribed dose and subsequent documentation in patient files and verifies accuracy of calculations using guidelines established by the medical physicist.
  • Assists in the simulation process to ensure optimal patient position, immobilization and adequate scans for treatment planning.
  • Participates with aspects of high and low dose brachytherapy procedures that include (but not limited to) implanting of brachytherapy devices, planning, calculations, and quality assurance measures in compliance with hospital, state and federal regulations.
  • Assists in quality improvement and quality assurance programs/procedures done by the medical physicist to ensure the accuracy and safety of treatments.
  • Participates in continuing education of treatment planning techniques, current advances in medical dosimetry and the clinical development and implementation of new therapy techniques in the department.

Job Requirements

Required

  • Bachelors Of Science in closely related field and Previous radiation therapy experience, upon hire
  • Certified Medical Dosimetrist, within 6 - months and
  • Registered Technologist Radiation Therapy, upon hire and


Preferred

  • Basic Life Support - CPR, upon hire
