Job Summary and Responsibilities

In general, the purpose of Medical Physics in radiological sciences is to carry out the principles and accepted protocols of physics to assure the correct quality, quantity, and placement of radiation during the performance of a radiation therapy procedures.

 

In particular, radiation oncology physics provides the above physics services, as well as maintaining standards of practice as required by regulatory agencies.

Job Requirements

Required

  • Master of Science degree, board certified by the American Board of Radiology in Radiation Therapy Physics or equivalent and a minimum of 2 years of clinical experience in radiation therapy.
  • Experience and proven ability in the areas of patient dosimetry, computer treatment planning, testing and commissioning medical equipment related to radiation therapy, and radioactive source placement are some of the essential qualification criteria in this field.

Preferred

  • PhD in Medical Physics, Physics or a related discipline. 
  • Recent PhD graduates must also have completed residency and be eligible for certification by the American Board of Radiology in Radiation Therapy Physics and must be certified within 2 years.
