Job Summary and Responsibilities

As our Cardiology Technician, you will perform all electrocardiograms and related tests according to specifically defined procedures for use in the diagnosis of heart disorders.

Every day you will execute a range of cardiology tests under the general direction of the manager, and carry out related duties as assigned by the Director/Manager of the Cardiology Department, contributing directly to patient diagnosis.

To be successful in this role you will demonstrate meticulous attention to detail, strong technical proficiency in performing EKGs and associated tests, and a proactive approach to supporting the diagnostic efforts of the department, all while adhering to established protocols and contributing to efficient operations.

  • Based on physician order performs the following diagnostic procedures in a manner consistent with department policy that demonstrates proper technique and basic understanding of results. A. 12-Lead electrocardiography: a. Adult. b. Pediatric. B. Signal Averaged Electrocardiography. C. Ambulatory (Holter) monitoring: a. Hook up and patient instruction. b. Scanning procedure - Computer operation, Rhythm recognition, Report generation. D. Event Recorder: a. Hook-up and patient instruction - King of Hearts, Heart Card. c. Receiving station - System operation, Rhythm recognition. E. Cardiovascular Stress Testing: Treadmill and Pharmacological: a. Patient preparation. b. System operation Marquette. d. Protocols Bruce, Adenosine, Dobutamine, Manual. F. Tilt Table: a. Patient preparation. b. System operation. G. Pacemaker analysis: a. Patient instruction. b. Recognition of pacemaker type. c. Recognition of sensing and capture. d. Magnet mode (VOO, DOO) operations.
  • Performs edit functions on Cardiac Information System (MUSE): a. Downloads cart and modem information. b. Confirms and /or edit demographic information. c. Distributes tracings (electronically) and provides billing information to reader. d. Edits report to reflect physician interpretation e. Distributes completed data to originating entity.
  • Carries out responsibilities appropriate to the established test and clerical procedures: a. Complies with procedures for the identification of test, maintenance of cardiac files and patient's charts. b. Participates in clerical and reception activities. c. Complies with procedure for the maintenance and inventory of supplies, medication and equipment, and carries out duties necessary to comply with related needs. d. Maintains a safe and orderly work area, which includes responsibilities for assisting with cleanup duties and equipment storage in appropriate areas. e. Maintains a surveillance of environmental conditions within the Cardiology Department. Follows established safety, emergency and infections control policies and procedures. f. Displays appropriate attitude and behavior. Demonstrates and understanding of Dignity Health and NHMC's philosophy and shares values, and incorporates them into daily performance. g. Complies with ethical and legal responsibilities and restrictions; established lines of authority, supervision and communication. Demonstrates care, concern and courtesy when providing patient care services; while maintaining patient dignity.
  • Performs other related duties as assigned or requested by Director/Manager as needed.

Job Requirements

Required

  • High School Graduate or GED
  • A course in the physical sciences or electrocardiography
  • Minimum one year experience performing or monitoring electrocardiograms under direct supervision
  • AHA Basic Life Support - CPR
  • Fire Safety, within 90 Days
