Job Summary and Responsibilities

The health information management technician ensures the physical access to the outpatient medical records and provides information for physicians, clinicians, patients and the general public. The technician assures the safety and confidentially of the medical record and facilitates complete information.  The employee is responsible for general filing and retrieval activities, works with Master Patient Index, handles filing of physician requests for copies, ancillary reports and patient folders. Interacts with physicians by retrieving records for them to complete. The employee is responsible for assembly and analysis of outpatient medical records and assists physicians in completion. Consolidates medical records numbers based on daily report.

  • Communicates accurately, openly, supportively and in a timely manner with department and interdepartmental team members. Demonstrates effective business writing and oral communication skills.
  • Demonstrates initiative, performs duties in an independent manner but know when to consult with a supervisor.
  • Use appropriate interpersonal skill. Is courteous and respectful to physicians, customers and staff members. Acts as a receptionist for the department.
  • Demonstrates professional use of telephone protocol.
  • Maintains confidentiality of patient/physicians/hospital information by following department/hospital policies and procedures.

Job Requirements

 

  • High School Graduate or GED required
  • Minimum one-year experience in medical records required
  • Fire Safety, within 90 Days required
