Job Summary and Responsibilities

The Critical Care Technician (CCT) plays a vital role in supporting the delivery of high-quality patient care. Working under the direct supervision and in close collaboration with the Registered Nurse (RN), the CCT performs a variety of direct and indirect patient care activities. This position requires strong technical skills, compassion, and the ability to maintain a calm and effective demeanor in a fast-paced environment. The CCT contributes significantly to patient comfort, safety, and the overall efficiency of the care team.

 

Key Responsibilities:

Direct Patient Care:

  • Assists patients with activities of daily living (ADLs) including bathing, feeding, ambulation, turning, repositioning, and personal hygiene.

  • Assists with patient transfers and mobility, utilizing proper body mechanics and assistive devices.

  • Monitors and records vital signs (temperature, pulse, respiration, blood pressure, oxygen saturation) accurately and reports abnormal findings promptly to the RN.

  • Responds to patient call lights promptly and effectively.

Clinical Support and Technical Skills:

  • Performs venipuncture for blood draws, ensuring proper technique, labeling, and timely delivery of specimens to the laboratory.

  • Inserts peripheral intravenous (IV) lines, adhering to sterile technique and facility policies.

  • Obtains 12-lead Electrocardiograms (ECGs), and reports results to the RN.

  • Assists with patient admissions, discharges, and transfers, including gathering patient belongings and preparing rooms.

  • Performs point-of-care testing (e.g., blood glucose) as delegated and within scope of practice.

  • Maintains and stocks patient care areas, ensuring adequate supplies and equipment.

  • Assists with various procedures under the direct supervision of the RN, such as dressing changes, Foley catheter insertion/removal, and specimen collection.

Job Requirements

In addition to bringing your whole self to the workplace each day, qualified Critical Care Tech candidates will need the following:

  • One year healthcare experience (pre-hospital, ED and/or patient care) preferred
  • Ability to read, write, speak, and understand English
  • Basic computer skills
  • High School Diploma or GED required
  • Current Colorado Emergency Medical Technician-Basic or A-EMT or EMT-Intermediate or Paramedic license required
  • IV certification required upon hire

Physical Requirements - Medium Work - (Exert up to 50lbs force occasionally, and/or up to 20lbs frequently, and/or up to 10lbs constantly)
