● Two years of IV room compounding experience including hazardous medications or completion of appropriate training program

Job Requirements

JOB SUMMARY / PURPOSE 

Under the supervision of a Pharmacist, the Pharmacy Technician Infusion Clinic prepares sterile medications, including hazardous drugs, for administration in an infusion clinic space and supports the procurement of medications, bio-technology products, and related pharmacy items to meet the supported clinics’ needs. Work is performed in accordance with protocols, internal guidelines/standards, and Board of Pharmacy regulatory requirements. 

ESSENTIAL KEY JOB RESPONSIBILITIES 

  1. Performs duties in documented accordance with requirements of all regulatory and governing bodies. 
    1. Mandatory education from a system and department level is completed. 
  2. Performs all necessary pharmaceutical calculations and prepares sterile parenteral medications, including hazardous drugs, for administration upon authorized provider order. 
  3. Provides information for medications prepared and administered to any billing staff as required by CMS and commercial payers. 
  4. Performs and documents inspections of the medication and supplies inventories to ensure that expired or otherwise unusable drugs are removed and replaced when appropriate. 
  5. Places pharmaceutical orders for any assigned locations.
    1. Reviews each order for optimized cost savings.
    2. Participates in adhering to the CSH formulary for associated locations. 
    3. Coordinates ordering of backorders items and assures allocated amounts are received.
    4. Consults with pharmacy leaders for cost-effective alternatives during drug shortages when needed
    5. Comply with contracts when placing orders for drug products
    6. Coordinates returns of unused medications as allowed by policy. 
  6. Ensure clinic compliance with all requirements of the Drug Supply Chain Security Act as well as related CommonSpirit Health and any associated entities policies and procedures. 
    1. Retrieve and maintain transactional data from vendors and drop shipped items that are shipped to clinics. 
  7. Coordinate clinic response to medication recalls 
    1. Reviews and identifies medication purchase history for the supported clinics for each medication recall. 
    2. Assures all recall actions are reconciled. 
  8. Responsible for ordering clinical supplies for the infusion clinic pharmacy.
