Job Summary and Responsibilities

As a PBX Operator, you will be responsible for all operations related to the hospital's Communications and Security Systems.

Daily, you will demonstrate behavior consistent with the Core Values, supporting our hospital's strategic plan and quality improvement initiatives. You will manage calls, operate the switchboard, respond to emergencies, and monitor security systems, ensuring seamless and secure communication.

Success in this role requires exceptional communication, calm under pressure, a commitment to service excellence, and dedication to the hospital's mission and values.

  • Answers all incoming calls to the switchboard within three rings
  • Prioritizes calls to the Physician's Line by answering it first when more then one line is ringing
  • Accurately registers patients and assembles admitting paperwork as required while constantly monitoring the switchboard and emergency alarms
  • Completes Outpatient labs, Ambulance runs, Newborn Admits and Crossovers on daily basis while answering the switchboard and completing all paging in a prompt, courteous manner
  • Understands and implements all aspects of emergency code paging policies and procedures, and notifies necessary personnel according to protocol in a fast, efficient manner
  • Maintains and updates the switchboard computer database and maintains a current hospital directory for operator's use

Job Requirements

Minimum Qualifications:

  • High School Graduate, upon hire or High School GED, upon hire and
  • Previous switchboard and hospital registration experience is required
  • Must be able to converse effectively and to understand orders given under emergency conditions

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Completion of course in Medical Terminology
