Job Summary and Responsibilities

Position Summary:


The Manager is responsible for the oversight of the assigned department(s) including, but not limited to: clinical resource management, discharge planning activities, patient advocacy, support of quality and risk activities, clinical social work and bestpractice in medical necessity determination. This position will oversee assigned department(s) in an efficient manner to ensure timely and compliant patient care services across the continuum resulting in quality patient care. The Manager consults and collaborates with other managers, departments, physicians, administration and healthcare workers regarding departmental activities or initiatives. This position leads or participates in quality and process improvement projects related to department functions. The Manager is responsible for all performance management activities, including hiring, training or disciplinary issues.


This position will conduct, lead,facilitate,or participate in staff meetings, interdepartmental meetings, family/patient meetings as appropriate. The manager will develop or participate in the development of the departmental operating budget, and monitor scheduling and expenditures to verify that the department is operating within the established business plan. This position reviews documentation or utilization data for the purposes of reporting, trending, quality improvement or validation of
compliance as indicated. The Manager guides department operations according to the organizational objectives, standards of practice and Federal and State Regulations and accrediting body active within the team.

  • Efficiently and independently plans time to accomplish job duties within departmental standards, is punctual, meets deadlines, initiates and follows through on tasks, and needs little supervision.

  • Makes recommendations to the supervising manager, regarding interventions to improve operations and resource management. 
  • Conducts monthly staff meetings including review of outcome measurements and identification of training/educational opportunities. 
  • Identifies opportunities for the development of new approaches for the department and prepares proposals with cost analyses, IT requirements, education and implementation plans. 
  • Contributes to the business plan and budget process. 
  • Coordinates and performs projects/activities as delegated by organizational committees and leadership.
  • The Manager is responsible for the oversight including organizing and executing all activities, staffing, performance improvement in the delivery of services, and reporting needs within the market and CommonSpirit Health, as well as government and regulatory reporting. 

Job Requirements

Minimum: 

  • Bachelors Degree or experience equivalent required.
  • 3 to 5 years experience in outpatient clinical / operations experience or 2 years of front-line supervisory experience.
  • Knowledge of CMS, NCQA and other outpatient accreditation requirements.
  • EMR/Outpatient management platform experience.
  • Budgeting experience.
  • Knowledge of value based reimbursement models of payment.

Required Skills, Abilities and Training:

 

  • Demonstrated ability to work closely with interdisciplinary partners in the management of identified patient populations. Overseeing a mix of clinical, operational, and business activities related to that team.
  • Demonstrated ability to implement specific program goals including high priority project redesign efforts required to improve performance.
  • Ability to work in partnership with all applicable internal and external customers who are focused on services to our patients in order to ensure that patients' care along the continuum are seamless.
  • Ability to assess and report patient status on a periodic basis to all team stakeholders.
  • Excellent computer skills and ability to learn new systems.
  • Strong organizational (time management) and interpersonal skills.
  • Ability to demonstrate effective supervisory skills, including developing clear performance expectations, hiring, coaching, conflict management, evaluating, resolving performance problems, and group facilitation.
  • Ability to handle multiple priorities with strong attention to detail. 
  • Ability to communicate effectively using written and verbal skills. Proficient in email communications and Internet usage along with basic use of office support platforms including documentation, spreadsheets and presentation software programs.
  • Knowledge of information technology to evaluate care effectiveness (care process, outcomes and cost). 
  • Knowledge of the content, intent and application of federal and state standards and regulatory requirements as well as accreditation requirements pertaining to matters within designated scope of responsibility.
  • Ability to work autonomously within a matrix environment without direct supervision or support.
  • Demonstrated experience with the budgeting process and ability to monitor and maintain budget within established guidelines/direction.
  • Demonstrated ability to set goals for themselves and their team including targets.  Able to then communicate progress concerning goal(s).
