Job Summary and Responsibilities

As a Pharmacy Tech, you will be a vital specialist, directly enabling the safe and efficient delivery of life-critical medications, ensuring our patients receive the right treatment to heal.

Every day, you will expertly assist pharmacists in preparing and dispensing medications, meticulously filling and distributing unit-dose drugs, and facilitating seamless medication exchanges to nursing units.

To excel in this role, you will combine a keen eye for detail, a thirst for continuous learning, and a proactive, patient-focused approach, consistently striving to deliver exceptional care through precision and dedication.

  • Contributes to the department’s safe and accurate operations by prioritizing and organizing daily work for optimal operations of pharmacy.
  • Participates in the on-boarding of new technicians.
  • Answers telephones, screens phone calls/orders.
  • Under the supervision of a licensed pharmacist, receives and enters prescriptions into the pharmacy management system.
  • Verifies information on prescriptions for accuracy and provides notification to pharmacists for possible errors and drug/allergy contraindications.
  • Identifies possible medication/prescription errors. Discusses error(s) with pharmacist on staff and PIC. Documents error in system-utilized error reporting tool.
  • Conducts prescription order processing to include packaging, reconstituting, and compounding/flavoring (if applicable).
  • Distributes medication to the patient/customer and collects payment; performs cashiering duties.
  • As the front line to all retail pharmacy customers, must present a professional, helpful, pleasant demeanor, showing respect in all patient/customer, coworker, and health care professional interactions.
  • Captures information and charges for purposes of billing third party payers; reconciles billing and administration records. Will contact provider office if medication is not covered or prior authorization is needed
  • Complies with federal state laws pertaining to pharmacy, including differing counseling requirements by state, HIPAA procedures and policies, etc
  • Operates and maintains automated dispensing devices and may problem solve for operation and maintenance of all automated systems in the Pharmacy.
  • Effective time management skills are critical to reprioritize work.
  • Must demonstrate initiative and be willing to work as a cohesive member of a team.
  • Performs administrative support functions for pharmacy operations, including filing.
  • Will ensure confidentiality of patient and other hospital information.
  • Tracks medication and supply orders and stocks and assists in keeping inventory at acceptable levels for patient care

Required

  • High School Graduate, upon hire or
  • High School GED or equivalent, upon hire and
  • Pharmacy Technician: WA, upon hire

Preferred

  • One year of retail pharmacy experience or equivalent
