Job Summary and Responsibilities

As our Surgical Tech, you will help prepare the operating room and surgical team so they can successfully perform a variety of surgical procedures for patients.

Every day, you will set up surgical equipment and instruments, assist the surgical team, and ensure a sterile environment. You will be expected to adapt quickly, collaborate effectively within the OR team, and contribute directly to the patient's healing process.

To be successful in this role, you must possess adaptability, a strong team-player mindset, and enthusiasm for supporting complex surgical procedures.

  • Adheres to established Hospital/departmental policies and procedures, objectives, Quality Assessment and Improvement Program, Infection Assessment and Improvement Program, legal, safety, environmental control standards, and Patient's Bill of Rights.
  • Identifies and prepares appropriate instrumentation, supplies, and equipment based on identified surgical procedures. Demonstrates responsibility in following the doctor's preference card (DCP) and utilizing materials and supplies accordingly, with minimal waste.
  • Maintains and monitors aseptic technique.
  • Assists the surgical team during operating procedures as appropriate.
  • Maintains and cares for equipment and supplies. Documents maintenance and repairs.
  • Provides comfort and support for operative patients. Demonstrates sensitivity to patients' care and privacy.

This position is represented by SEIU-UHW and is covered by the terms and conditions of the collective bargaining agreement.

Job Requirements

  • High School Graduate or GED required. 
  • Minimum 3 years of operating room experience in an acute care setting required. 
  • Completion of ST program and at least one (1) year in an area of specialty
  • Certified Surgical Technologist (CST) required. 
  • AHA Basic Life Support (AHA BLS) required,
  • Fire Safety Card (within 90 Days from start date) required.
