Penrose - St. Francis Health Services is a full-service, 712-bed acute care provider in Colorado Springs comprised of Penrose Hospital, St. Francis Hospital and St. Francis Hospital - Interquest. Job Summary and Responsibilities

Job Summary: 

Performs both routine and complex histologic techniques such as enzyme histochemistry, immunohistochemistry, in-situ hybridization, and immunofluorescence on tissue samples for microscopic examination by a pathologist to diagnose disease. Knowledgeable in the areas of pathology, management, education, and regulations that impact the field of histotechnology; acts as a technical resource for the department.

 

Job Requirements

In addition to bringing your whole self to the workplace each day, qualified candidates will need the following:

 

Required Education and Experience:

  • Opt 1: Bachelor Degree with a combination of 30 semester hrs of biology and chemistry (must include both), AND successful completion of an accredited Histotechnology program.
  • Opt 2: Bachelor Degree with a combination of 30 semester hrs of biology and chemistry (must include both), AND one year full time acceptable experience in a histopathology laboratory within the last 5 years including fixation, embedding, microtomy, processing and staining.

 

Preferred Education and Experience:

  • Bachelor degree and successful completion of an accredited Histotechnology program, AND/OR Histotechnology certification, HTL, by American Society of Clinical Pathology

Required Minimum Knowledge, Skills, Abilities and Training: 

  • Detail-oriented with the ability to multitask and prioritize duties. Knowledgeable in the areas of pathology management, education, and regulations that impact the field of histology.
