Job Summary and Responsibilities

As our EMT, you will perform essential general patient care, meticulously following established clinic workflows to ensure efficient and high-quality service delivery within an outpatient setting.

Every day you will complete comprehensive patient intake duties, including obtaining vital signs, verifying allergies and medications, and documenting reasons for visits. You'll also collect and prepare specimens, administer ordered medications and vaccines, clean and sterilize instruments, ensure exam room readiness, and meticulously complete safety checklists, escalating any non-routine issues promptly.

To be successful in this role, you will demonstrate a strong commitment to patient care, efficiency, and safety, adeptly managing all intake processes and supporting clinical operations. Your ability to meticulously follow protocols, maintain a clean and stocked environment, and proactively address concerns will be crucial for exceptional patient experiences.

  • Assumes responsibility for assigned ambulance and its equipment at all times: completes charts and daily ambulance check-off as indicated, re-stocks ambulance equipment and supplies as needed, reports any maintenance problems or discrepancies to Department Manager and takes assigned corrective action(s), takes pride in appearance of ambulance and equipment and cleans whenever indicated, delivers thorough report of ambulance to oncoming EMT
  • Drives ambulance in a safe, efficient manner: maintains knowledge of major streets and locations, utilizes code 3 lights and siren only when appropriate in accordance with approved hospital policy, obeys local and state traffic laws, considers patient and staff safety and comfort during transport communicates with fire department and law enforcement personnel for safe accessible location of ambulance at scene of call and maneuvers ambulance safely on all calls, maintains knowledge of use of radios and other accessories used in ambulance and insures appropriate communication with involved agencies, records mileage, time, etc., indicated on log sheets
  • Assists with organization of equipment at scene of ambulance calls: helps carry and retrieve needed equipment and supplies, anticipates other needs as situation dictates
  • Assists with patient care as needed during ambulance calls: maintains assessment and basic treatment skills in the areas of bandaging, splinting, using immobilization devices and taking vital signs, etc., remains familiar with operations and set up of equipment such as oxygen, EKG monitors, suction, portable radios, etc., provides patient assessments and airway management within the EMT-B scope of practice
  • Helps facilitate transfer of patient from scene to ambulance: prepares equipment for patient transport, uses good body mechanics when lifting and moving patients, assists with extrication as necessary
  • Provides care to patients in the Emergency Department and other hospital departments when needed: provides patient care within scope of practice, provides assistance to other hospital departments after necessary training

  • Basic Life Support - CPR
