Job Summary and Responsibilities

Registered Nurse (RN) – Women’s & Maternity Unit (Postpartum Only)

CHI St. Alexius Health – Bismarck, ND
Full-Time | Rotating 12 hour shifts | No call | Every 3rd weekend

About the Role

We’re looking for an experienced Postpartum RN to join our Women’s & Maternity team.

This is a mother-baby postpartum unit only—not labor & delivery. You’ll care for moms recovering after delivery and their newborns during those first important days of bonding, healing, learning, and heading home.

If you love teaching, supporting new parents, and being part of a calm-but-busy unit where your nursing skills really matter—this is your place.

What You’ll Do

  • Care for postpartum moms and newborns (recovery + newborn care only)
  • Assess, plan, and deliver individualized postpartum nursing care
  • Support breastfeeding, newborn care education, and discharge readiness
  • Monitor maternal recovery and newborn transition to life outside the womb
  • Work closely with providers, lactation consultants, and the care team
  • Keep documentation clean, accurate, and timely
  • Create a calm, supportive, confident experience for new families

Why You’ll Love This Unit: You’ll spend your shifts doing meaningful, hands-on nursing care at one of the most important transitions in a family’s life. It’s fast enough to stay interesting, but grounded enough to actually connect with your patients.

Job Requirements

What We’re Looking For

  • 2–3 years of recent postpartum / mother-baby RN experience REQUIRED
  • Strong skills in postpartum maternal and newborn care
  • Confident patient educator (you’ll teach a LOT here—in the best way)
  • Calm, steady, team-oriented nurse who thrives in this specialty
  • RN license in ND or compact state
  • BLS certification (or obtained during orientation)
