Job Summary and Responsibilities

As our Pharmacy Technician you will help the pharmacy team ensure the appropriate distribution of medications so they can provide safe and effective pharmaceutical care to patients. Every day you will prepare and dispense prescribed medications for patients, perform compounding of intravenous medications, and assist in managing inventory. You will be expected to perform charging and crediting functions for medications, and complete routine clerical/administrative tasks, all while maintaining a clean and safe environment using appropriate aseptic technique. To be successful in this role, you must demonstrate knowledge of state and federal laws, CSH policies and procedures, and continually complete educational modules to stay abreast of departmental changes and The Joint Commission requirements.

  • Medication Preparation & Dispensing: Accurately obtains, labels, repackages, fills, and distributes medications through various systems (first fill, cart fill, automated drug systems), including specialized narcotic distribution
  • Inventory & Compliance Management: Conducts inspections of medication rooms for regulatory compliance, maintains expiration dates, accurately outdates inventory, and disposes of medications according to state and federal law
  • Pharmacy Automation & Software Operations: Operates pharmacy automation, medication computer software and hardware to optimize safety and efficiency, including AutoPackers for repackaging oral and topical doses according to Federal guidelines
  • Medication Knowledge & Processing: Applies knowledge of generic/trade name medications, dosage formulations (e.g., ER, XR, SR), and preparation requirements/limitations (e.g., high risk, hazardous), and accurately processes patient medication orders and billing adjustments
  • Pharmaceutical Calculations & Critical Drug Handling: Accurately performs pharmaceutical calculations, including those for injectable medications with a narrow therapeutic index
  • Security, Documentation & Training: Manages patient home medication acquisition and dispensing, secures pharmacy areas, reports medication errors appropriately, and has training in applicable EHR, pharmacy automation, and computer applications

Job Requirements

Required

  • High school diploma or GED 
  • Registered Pharmacy Tech in the state of ND; Active CPT-EXCPT or CPT-PTCB or CPHT certification in good standing
