Established by the Sisters of the St. Francis in 1924, CHI Health Good Samaritan is a 268-bed regional referral center in Kearney, Neb. At CHI Health Good Samaritan, you’ll find an advanced level trauma center that also offers AirCare emergency helicopter transport and an ambulance program providing long distance and local 911 service. Among our many other services are cardiac care including open-heart surgery, a level II neonatal intensive care unit, a nationally accredited cancer center, comprehensive neurosurgery, advanced orthopedic program, and inpatient and outpatient mental health services at our free-standing Richard Young Behavioral Health facility.

Job Summary and Responsibilities

As our Telemetry Technician, you will provide continuous observation of monitored ECG patterns of patients on telemetry and report significant information to appropriate nursing personnel. You will function within a designated area, in close observation, in the monitoring of patients.

Every day, you will be responsible for responding to all alarms detected, while working with a diverse care team. You are held accountable for the policies and procedures of the department and organization. This position supports the mission, vision, and philosophy of our organization.

To be successful in your role, you will meticulously monitor and interpret ECG patterns, swiftly responding to alarms and communicating critical information to nursing staff, thereby ensuring continuous patient safety. You will demonstrate exceptional attention to detail, collaborate effectively within a diverse care team, and consistently adhere to departmental and organizational policies, directly supporting our mission, vision, and philosophy.
  • Continuous observation of monitored ECG patterns and pulse oximetry as ordered.
  • Sets up, calibrates and maintains settings and alarms on the telemetry module.
  • Obtains rhythm strip at beginning of shift, on admission and whenever changes occur.
  • Recognizes changes in rate, rhythm or pattern and obtains a documentary ECG strip; immediately reports all arrhythmias to the care team responsible for the patient in accordance with established protocols.
  • Handles incoming and outgoing communications, answers questions and assists staff in accordance with established procedures.
  • Maintains current knowledge of the technical operation and capabilities of the central monitoring station; maintains alarm systems according to established protocols and responds appropriately to monitor alarms; identifies/troubleshoots routine technical problems with the monitors and sends work orders for maintenance/clinical engineering repairs as necessary.
