Job Summary and Responsibilities

As our Nurse Practitioner (NP), you will be responsible for providing direct health care services for post op cardiac surgery patients in the telemetry setting. The Cardiac Surgery Nurse Practitioner provides services to streamline and expedite the flow of
patients having cardiac surgery procedures.

Every day, you will provide care that consists of evaluation of normal and abnormal findings, initiation of treatments, and coordination of admissions and discharges.


To be successful in your role, you will work collaboratively with medical, nursing, and support services to deliver comprehensive, family-centered care. The CVSurgery Nurse Practitioner performs these functions in accordance with the Standardized Procedures
approved by the Mercy General Hospital Committees for Credentials, Interdisciplinary Practice, and Cardiology. A more specific description of the CV Surgery NP includes:

 

  • Entering post-operative orders
  • Collaborating with Cardiology and CV Surgeons based upon patient care needs
  • Receiving report from the Intensivist provider
  •  Managing patients who have complications post operatively
  • Providing patient education and counseling as needed
  • Completing Incision/dressing management
  • Removing chest tubes and temporary pacing wires
  • Facilitating additional consults as needed
  • Discharging patients from the Progressive Care Unit (PCU) (including medication reconciliation)
  • Program coverage is 7 days a week, including holidays

Job Requirements

Minimum Requirement:

  • Graduation from an accredited school of nursing
  • Completion of an accredited program for nurse practitioner, and certification as a nurse practitioner.
  • Provider number (NPI).
  • Eligible to apply for furnishing and DEA license in order to prescribe medications within approved standardized procedure.
  • Current BLS and ACLS certifications.
  • Master’s degree in nursing

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Experience as an acute care Cardiovascular Nurse Practitioner
  • Acute Care NP Certification
