Leaders in Specialized Care:
Why SJHMC?
This is an invitation to join a family of dedicated professionals at the forefront of medical innovation, united by the power of humankindness.
As our Vascular Access Nurse in the Post Procedure Unit at St. Joseph's Hospital & Medical Center, you will
be a vital part of coordinating patient care planning across disciplines, leveraging principles of the nursing process and critical thinking to maintain unparalleled patient safety and well-being. Specializing in difficult access, you'll assess patients for appropriate Vascular Access Device (VAD) needs, place Peripherally Inserted Central Catheters (PICCs), and manage long-term VADs. This role requires expertise in troubleshooting complications and ensuring optimal access for diverse patient populations.
Every day you will directly place PICCs and difficult peripheral catheters, troubleshoot and declot VADs, and serve as a resource for staff support. You'll contact physicians for medical orders, obtain patient consent, and provide comprehensive teaching and follow-up care for PICC line maintenance. Your responsibilities extend to writing policies/procedures, providing staff and physician education on PICC care and complication management, and presenting quarterly data for QA on PICC outcomes. You'll contribute to performance improvement projects related to PICCs, upholding the highest standards of care.
To be successful in this role, competency in PICC placement and completion of an approved PICC training program are highly desirable. Strong critical thinking, excellent communication, the ability to analyze data, coordinate tasks, and manage a heavy workload are essential.
