Founded in 1967, Dignity Health - Mercy San Juan Medical Center is a 377-bed, acute care, nonprofit hospital located in Carmichael, California. Serving over 100,000 patients annually, the hospital offers a full complement of services including a Level II Trauma Center, Level III NICU, heart care, cancer care, women’s health, and neurology. Additionally, Mercy San Juan Medical Center has been recognized as an LGBTQ+ Healthcare Equality Leader by the Human Rights Campaign Foundation. It is a Comprehensive Stroke Center, the highest level of stroke care certification awarded by The Joint Commission.
Oncology Acute is a 30-bed Medical-Surgical Unit whose staff specializes in Oncology acute care. The department has18 private rooms and 12 semi-private rooms. 30-60% of our patients are oncology patients, but we also treat other related medical illnesses. We have telemetry capability for non-complex cardiac patients, whereas we generally have 30-50% of our patients on telemetry. We administer chemotherapy and biotherapy as well as handle complex oncological conditions. Unit staffing is composed of RN ratio 1:4 or 1:5 depending on patient acuity, with Patient Care Tech support for direct patient care. You will be able to draw support from our multidisciplinary team approach, which includes Case Managers, Social Workers, Chaplaincy, RT, PT, Pharmacy, Palliative team and a Med/Surg Educator. This 30-bed unit is very busy and challenging, and offers you a variety of experiences and opportunities for professional growth. Senior staff are motivated in teaching and mentoring new team members.
