Job Summary and Responsibilities

As an ED Tech, you will provide crucial support and direct patient care in the fast-paced Emergency Department, ensuring efficient operations and compassionate assistance during critical moments.

Every day you will expertly assist with patient admissions and discharges, perform vital signs and basic medical procedures, maintain a clean and organized environment, and meticulously document observations to support the nursing staff and physician team.

To be successful, you will demonstrate outstanding adaptability, strong communication skills, and a calm, proactive demeanor, contributing significantly to timely patient care and a smooth-running ED.

  • Technical Skills: Competent in psychomotor skills and technical procedures within scope of practice. Assists EDRN by preparing the patient for examination/treatment appropriate to the chief complaint and demographic/population specific criteria. Obtains 12-Lean EKG’s when directed/ordered. Performs and documents all vital signs, special procedure set up, splinting and any other simple tasks as directed by the RN within the scope of their practice. Demonstrates ability to use department equipment appropriate to the level of training. Responds effectively in emergency situation. Stocks, re-stocks supplies in department, and may be asked to place orders for specialty or stationary supplies specific to the ED.
  • Documentation: Performs legible, timely, concise and accurate documentation according to policies and procedures. Proficient and competent with the computerized documentation system (Cerner FirstNet).
  • Organizational Skills: Uses appropriate organization, priority setting and problem solving skills.
  • Self-Development: Accountable for self-directed learning and participation in continuing education to meet own professional development. Holds and maintains a valid Emergency Medical Technician (EMT) certification, issued by the State of California, in accordance with County and State requirements, and Basic Life Support (BLS) Certification.
  • Patient Safety: Applies safety precautions and principles to patient care. Includes all applicable National Patient Safety Goals.
  • Quality: Participates in unit, service line and CommonSpirit Health Quality initiatives. Includes Patient Satisfaction, Throughout Initiatives, and departmental Core Measures.

Job Requirements

  • Successful completion of an accredited EMT Program in California.
  • Previous experience as an ER Tech or EMT.
  • Emergency Medical Technician: CA
  • Basic Life Support from the American Heart Association.
  • Currently licensed as an EMT by the State of California, license must be maintained throughout employment.


Preferred

  • Six (6) months ER Tech experience or
  • Six (6) months experience working for a 911 or IFT/CCT Ambulance or Fire Service
